Waste Reduction Week 2016

Waste Reduction Week 2016

October 17-23, 2016

While we have a pretty good understanding of what recycling is and how to do it, Waste Reduction Week is a great time to consider other things that we could do.  Consider the other R's:  Rethink, Refuse, Reduce, and Reuse

To Rethink means to consider other ways of doing things that might produce less waste.

We can Refuse to take things we don't need.  Refuse to buy things that we can borrow.  Refuse to throw away something that can be recycled if it is rinsed off.

Everyone can Reduce the amount of packaging they bring home.  We can also reduce the number of single use items that we consume.

Finally, start looking at everything you have and ask the question, how can I Reuse this.  Even before you purchase something, you can think about how many times it can be used, or other ways it can be used.

These are a few basic ideas that I hope everyone can use during Waste Reduction Week to take our efforts to the next level to keep items out of the landfill.

If you have questions or would like more information on what else you can do, give NEAT a call on the Peace River Regional District's Greenline at 888-689-6328.  We would love to help.
