Recycle Your Thermostats, Smoke Detectors, & CO Alarms

Prrrdy Says...

You can recycle those old thermostats and smoke detectors.  British Columbia, in partnership with the Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute of Canada (HRAI) and Product Care, make recycling of these items possible.

Home owners and businesses are encouraged to upgrade their thermostat to a programmable unit.  By doing this, you are able to save money on your heating and cooling.  Smoke detectors expire and need to be replaced.  It is recommended to to test your detector regularly and replace if needed, or if expired.

During the month of October, 2013, we are trying to make recycling of these items even easier.  You are now able to take your thermostats, smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms to 5 different locations in the South Peace.  These locations are:

  • Bessborough Landfill
  • Dawson Creek Transfer Station
  • DC Recycling
  • Tumbler Ridge Town Hall
  • Chetwynd Landfill

If you are in the Fort St. John area, you are able to take these items to Eco-Depot year around.  This is a free serviced paid for through the eco-fees you paid upon purchase of these items.  Let's Switch the Stat and Alarm Recycle during the month of October.
